  1. 1.What are your rates?

Our rates vary depending on the parameters of the project including necessity of extra personnel and facility type.  We are always happy to work with your budget to get you project completed. Please call or email us for a quote.

2. How does remote mixing work?

Many bands do their own tracking, but don’t have the expertise or gear to do a top notch mix.  We provide our mixing expertise in our acoustically treated mix room to make your project shine.  First you send us a drive with your ProTools projects, Logic Projects, or multi-track wav files. Before we start we talk with you to see what you imagine, and also ask you what other bands you like the sound of.  Then we will mix the tracks and send you MP3s for approval. When you’re satisfied you pay the bill and we send you the final mixes in whatever format you desire.  If you are local you can even drop in and add your 2 cents to the final mixdown.

3. How long will my project take?

The complexity and length of the project are usually deciding factors, therefore we can’t offer any exact numbers.  Some projects take as little as an hour or two, some take a day or more.  We are efficient and punctual in our completion of work and are used to tight deadlines and last minute changes.  We will establish with you your expectations and deadlines at the beginning of the project.

4. What are your payment policies?

Payment must be rendered at the time of service. For mobile recording projects a 50% deposit is required up front.  Net 30 can be arranged for post-production work.

  1. 5.I don’t see a particular service listed.  Can you do it?

We have a wide range of experience and can handle most audio tasks.  If for some reason we are unable to help you, we will be able to recommend someone to you. Just ask us!

Mobile Recording

  1. 1.What is the difference between live stereo and live multi-track recording?

Live stereo recording requires a very small number of microphones, usually between 2 and 4, and these are mixed to a stereo track as the concert is recorded.  This technique works best for small ensembles or soloists in good sounding environments and is most common for classical music.  The advantage is that there is no mixing, and minimal mastering to do once the concert is finished.  One can achieve outstanding results in a short period of time on a small budget.  The disadvantage is that there is very little flexibility for changing the performance or mix afterwards.

Multi-track recording provides much more flexibility in the mix and can allow for later overdubs or punch-ins.  This is a very efficient way to capture the energy of a live concert and complete all the tracking in a short period of time.  After the concert one can then mix the album in the studio and have the flexibility to change the mix and add overdubs as needed.  The complexity necessitates a higher day rate, but it is still much cheaper than tracking in a studio for several days.

2. How quickly will I get the recorded files?

Raw tracks can be picked up within 24 hours of the recording.  If any mixing or mastering is desired the schedule will depend on the complexity of the session.  Mastering of stereo recordings can generally be completed within 72 hours of the recording.  Mixing of multi-track sessions can take as long as a week or sometimes two depending on client needs.

3. How many tracks can you record simultaneously?

Anywhere from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 56.

4. What geographical area do you serve?

Anywhere we can drive to.  Chicago and the near suburbs are included in the day rate.  Farther flung areas incur a travel charge.  Overnight stays require room and per diem charges as well.

6. What kind of gear do you have?

Mics from Neumann, DPA, AKG, Shure, ADK, Sennheiser, Electrovoice, Audio Technica and Oktava.

Pre’s from Neve, API, Chandler, Focusrite, and Mackie.

A/D from Lavry, Focusrite, Digidesign, MOTU, and more

DAWs include Pro Tools and Logic

Digital multi-tracks from Alesis.
